Servpro Questionable Practice - Servpro

My first hand experience with a franchise owner operator.

I have worked for large loss profession restoration companies for more than 17 years as a sub contracted project manger. losses from $1000,000.00 - Total Loss Fire $6,000,000.00 $$$

I replied to an advertisement posting on LinkedIn that a local franchise was growing and looking for new people. I went in interviewed and was immediately offered what appeared to be a great package.

Day 1 - I watched franchise video trainning. History of franchise, policies, procedures etc. The first thing that came to my attention was that the founder of the franchise really had no experience in the field as a restorer nor did he have any background in building. Most of his time was spent flying around in his private airplane. 2nd bit of information i picked up on was the CEO of the franchise was a female with a background in accounting. Come to realize now this is probably why there is such a lack of training, and or credentials, requirements to get become a franchise. The introduction video was almost a infomercial selling the %u201CAmerican Dream%u201D. I did a little research after all of this and found most owners of this franchise have no background in restoration.

Day 2 - I was sent out on a fire damage. We were 45 min late and the %u201CCleaning Crew%u201D (5 non english speaking workers) showed up later than us. No one knew how to operate what appeared to be a Prochem 405 Truck Mount. There was no chemical jug, the solution feed line was laying on the floor of the van. They fired up the Truck Mount and started cleaning smoke damaged furniture with plain water no chemical! The pressure was at almost 600 psi. They then cleaned all the carpets with no emulsifier etc., just hot water. The cleaning crew was on the lower lever wiping down walls. There was no pre vacuuming going on.

Day 3 - I was sent to a mold job. Master bathroom 150 square feet. I set up containment used my personal Negative air as the just wanted to put an air scrubber in the room with no exhaust ducting. I pulled all carpet pad scrapped and hepa vacced one small area sprayed and wiped with anti microbial. took maybe 35 min. Got clearance following morning and they left equipment for two days running and charged customer after clearance! $975.00 for a $300.00 job.

Day 4 - Went to a water loss where that they had dried out the week prior. The flooring guy removed a sample and found moister. I tested and the slab was 99%-78% wet. I set up two dehumidifiers as there were two separate areas. They never took any RH reading or checked the water meter when all valves are off for a leak. I checked RH outside was 23% inside was 53%. I then went out to the water meter opened it up and sure enough it was spinning. Slab leak! I shut off water left equipment running.

Day 5 - Went to a water loss in Ontario CA. Was told there was black water. Showed up to job and one little area was damp on carpet. No standing water. The owner of the company told me to set up truck mount and extract water that clearly was not there. I tested all walls for moisture very little. He set up three dehumidifiers, and four air scrubbers. this was a friday. On Monday he had me remove almost 300 square feet of un affected drywall. I was not comfortable with this. He then asked to have the technicians remove the carpet that was on top of 9x9 HOT tiles.. Many were missing and lots of black dust. At this point I was forced to quit. Contaminating peoples homes was the limit for me.

There is no pre qualifications to be a Servpro owner. Other organisations have min of 6 in business, do over 2,000,000.00 annually and many other qualifications

Come to find out this company is not a California Licensed Contractor, and the owner has not taken a class in over 7 years! None of the technicians have taken any IICRC classes, two of them just got out of jail. Kinda unbelievable.
